How could this approach be developed and adapted?
Limitations
The limitation with an experiment like this is the entirely synthetic/machine-generated nature. This was most apparent in the simulated workshop conversations, which didn't reflect real-world speech or lived experience.
The scenarios generated do bear resemblance to the types of reports and thematics seen across the industry, but it's hard to understand whether this is just a result of referencing and referencing content found online.
In this sense, is recycling existing information with a veneer of McKinsey speak offering anything new? Is is this just more AI slop? Possibly it is. But this limitation points towards where the opportunity lies to unlock more value from an AI mediated approach to strategic foresight.
Opportunities
AI has massively reduced time and effort required for projects such as this, and presents new opportunities to introduce different perspectives into our work.
Integrating real voices and real people to this approach (ie composite audience personas) would be a possible next step for development.
If we can aggregate interviews, workshop outputs and existing domain knowledge and integrate into accessible systems, this may provide a much more solid and representative foundation for insights.
Beyond this, this approach doesn't limit us to human voices and input. The datasets we hold or are publicly available can be used to provide other non-human perspectives. Future 'workshops' could include more diverse ranges of participants - human and non-human.
This experiment and report is both an output and an investigation into the tools emerging technologies available - and very much an opportunity to challenge/explore where this might head!
